Frederiksværk is located between Arresø and Roskilde Fjord in North Zealand, and in fact the town is named after King Frederik the 5th. The town has grown up around his cannon foundry Gjethuset. Therefore, the town is characterized by a history filled with gunpowder and bullets, and you can see the remains of a bygone era in the open-air park Krudtværksmuseet and the former cannon foundry. After a renovation, they have today become a tourist and cultural center. In addition, the city is known for "The Danish Steel Rolling Mill", which was established during World War II and closed down in 1964. Today, the steel rolling mill has been transformed into a museum which is part of the Industrial Museum Frederiksværk Works.
Danhostel Frederiksværk is close to the marina. In a landscape filled with beautiful scenery, the hostel is located in a white house with 18 rooms and 10 cottages. Here is a lovely dining room and a cozy TV room in happy colors. If you are interested in outdoor activities, there are tennis courts, a football field and canoe rental as well as a children's playground. Soak up the sun on the large terrace and should it be gray one day then don't worry as the hostel has free wi-fi.
When you spend the night at Danhostel Frederiksværk, you can also come out and sail with the beautiful wooden ship Frederikke during the summer season or take a walk along the scenic river that runs through the forest to Arresø. Maybe you can even recognize some of the nature around Frederiksværk from DR's drama series 'Summer'.
If you want a little further afield, here is not far to the fishing camp in Hundested, where you will find restaurants, galleries and a glass pudding.
